이미 설치된 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 시스템을 Update 6로 업그레이드하시려면 Red Hat Network를 사용하여 변경된 패키지를 업데이트하셔야 합니다. 아나콘다를 사용한 Update 6 업그레이드 작업은 지원되지 않습니다.
아나콘다는 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 Update 6를 새롭게 설치할 경우에만 사용하십시오.
네트워크 기반 설치 준비를 위해 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 Update 6 CD-ROM의 내용물을 복사하신다면 해당 운영 체제를 위한 CD-ROM만 복사하셔야 합니다. 추가 CD-ROM이나 기타 제품 CD-ROM을 복사하지 마십시오. 이 CD를 복사하시면 아나콘다가 올바른 작업을 수행하는데 필요한 파일을 덮어쓸 가능성이 있습니다.

광채널 호스트 버스 어댑터 (FC HBAs)에 부착된 스토리지를 사용하는 시스템은 PCI 장치 로드 순서로 인해 설치 중에 문제가 발생할 수도 있습니다. 이 문제를 해결하기 위하여 latefcload라는 새로운 부트 옵션이 개발되었습니다. 이 옵션은 다른 스토리지 장치가 로딩될 때까지 기다린 후에 마지막으로 FC HBAs를 로딩합니다. latefcload옵션을 사용하시려면, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 Update 6 설치 부트 프롬프트에서 다음과 같이 입력하시기 바랍니다:

다음 부분에서는 배포판 일반적인 정보를 다루고 있습니다.
(Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3이나 이후 버전에 포함된) 4.1 이후 버전 RPM에서, rpm 명령은 더이상 패키지 이름을 사용하여 패키지 upgrade (-U) 또는 freshen (-F) 여부를 알아내지 않습니다. 대신 rpm 명령은 이제 패키지가 제공하는 기능 그리고 패키지 이름을 사용합니다. 패키지 이름만이 아니라 패키지 기능에 따라서 패키지를 제외할지 결정할 수 있도록 이러한 변화가 생겼습니다.
그러나 이러한 변화로 인해 새로운 버전의 패키지를 설치하기 위해 -U 또는 -F 옵션을 사용할 경우 rpm 4.1 이전 버전과 이후 버전이 다르게 작동합니다.
예를 들어, kernel 및 kernel-smp 패키지가 모두 설치되어 있는 경우 다음 명령을 입력하시면:
rpm -F kernel-<version>.rpm
kernel-smp 패키지가 완전히 삭제되고, 업그레이드된 kernel 패키지만 남게됩니다. 그 이유는 양 패키지가 커널 기능을 제공하며, 또한 kernel 패키지는 이름이 정확히 일치될 뿐만 아니라 커널 기능을 제공하는 주요 패키지이므로, kernel 패키지로 인해 kernel-smp 패키지가 더이상 사용되지 않고 제외됩니다.
따라서 커널을 업그레이드하실 때에는 -F 이나 -U 옵션을 사용하지 않도록 권장합니다. 대신 -i 옵션을 사용하시기 바랍니다.
up2date는 커널 패키지를 설치 (i 옵션을 사용)하도록 (업데이트하거나 freshen 하지 않도록) 기본 설정되어 있습니다. 이 설정은 /etc/sysconfig/rhn/up2date 파일에서 pkgsToInstallNotUpdate 변수를 이용하여 제어 가능하며 rpm 기능 변화에 상관없이 독자적으로 변경 가능합니다.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 Update 6에서 su 명령의 검색 순서가 변경되었습니다. 이전 버전에서는 su 명령의 $PATH 검색 순서가 다음 순서대로 설정되었습니다:
/bin, /sbin, /usr/bin, /usr/sbin
업데이트된 버전의 su 명령은 다음 순서대로 검색합니다:
/sbin, /bin, /usr/sbin, /usr/bin.
중앙 서버에 네트워크를 통해 크래시 메모리 이미지를 제공하는 서비스인, Netdump는 이제 본딩된 네트워크 인터페이스 상에서 커널 클래시 덤프를 가져오는 기능을 지원합니다. 현재 오직 본딩 모듈 1 (Active-Backup)만 지원됩니다.

diskdump 사용을 위해 cciss 장치 (/etc/sysconfig/diskdump 파일에서 DEVICE 변수로 나온 장치)가 활성화된 경우, cciss 드라이버를 업로드하거나 재로딩하시려면 cciss 드라이버를 언로드하기 전에 diskdump 서비스를 먼저 정지하고, 드라이버를 로딩 후에 다시 시작해야 합니다. 예를 들면:
service diskdump stop rmmod cciss modprobe cciss service diskdump start
diskdump 서비스를 멈추고 재시작하지 않으시면, 크래시 덤프를 시작하면 시스템이 멈추고 덤프 파일이 기록되지 않을 것입니다. 향후 출시될 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3에서는 diskdump 서비스가 실행 중일때 덤프 장치를 제어하는 경우 cciss 드라이버가 언로드되지 않도록 하여 이 문제를 해결할 것입니다.
이 업데이트 버전에는 다수의 드라이버 문제점이 수정되었습니다. 중요한 드라이버 업데이트 목록을 아래에서 찾으실 수 있습니다. 드라이버 설정을 나중에 업데이트하려는 분들을 위하여 일부 원래 드라이버의 이름을 변경 후 디폴트가 아닌 선택 항목으로 두었습니다.
대부분의 경우 각 업데이트마다 오직 한 버전 이전의 드라이버만 보존되므로, 다음 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 업데이트 받기 이전에 최신 드라이버로 업데이트하셔야 합니다.
이 릴리즈 노트 문서에서는 이 커널 업데이트에서 삭제된 이전 버전 드라이버도 다루고 있습니다. 이 드라이버는 megaraid_2002.o와 같이 기본 드라이버 이름에 버전 번호가 첨가되어 나타납니다. 이 커널 업데이트를 설치하시기 전에 반드시 /etc/modules.conf 파일에서 이 드라이버를 삭제하셔야 합니다.
